Thank you for writing and posting this, what an emotional rollercoaster this must have been for you, very thorough analysis, I've read every word and was really touched by your dedication and hard work to support your son. Although we are in the UK where the elites are Oxford and Cambridge, and my daughter is still at primary school, I found very helpful the idea of leaning on a narrative and take action early to support it. All the best to your son in this new chapter in his life!
Thank you for the incredibly thorough recap of your college application journey and your takeaways from the process. We will be embarking on a similar adventure soon as our daughter will be entering 9th grade in the Fall, possibly at the same HS. In talking with many who are ahead of us, we are in agreement with most everything you’ve written. Congrats to your son and your family. I am sure he will make an incredible impact in our world soon.
Thanks! If you are at the same HS (is your daughter transferring in? my son transferred in 9th), there is probably other specific things I could share with you offline
Thanks for the incredibly thorough and thoughtful rundown of the process! I am giving it to my rising HS junior to read. She is very different from Ian (not so interested in business or in going to an HYPS) but the points about how to frame your story and be strategic about when to apply are really helpful.
Glad to hear some part of it was useful. I have all this knowledge from the process that will never be useful to me again so I thought it was worth sharing.

Thanks, Georgia!

Well, if you ever need a new career, you’d be a great college admissions coach!
Maybe when I retire!
